چکیده مقاله |
Due to potential environmental hazards and public health risks, veterinary infectious waste management is important. Generally, veterinary waste is often mixed with municipal solid waste and disposed of in landfills or inappropriate treatment facilities, such as inadequately controlled incinerators. Environmental regulatory agencies should monitor more for better managing infectious veterinary waste. Many developed countries have complete laws related to veterinary waste, however, in general, there is little supervision in Iran. This lack of transparency has made the classification of infectious waste inefficient and thus increases the volume of infectious waste not secured for pathogens. Also, the unnecessary classification of waste as infectious waste leads to higher disposal costs and increasing adverse environmental effects. This article examines the management of veterinary infectious waste, including common sources, governing laws, and management and disposal methods. This review concludes that the establishment and full implementation of laws, supervision of national and local governing bodies, better training of health care workers, and standard classification of infectious waste are the key ways for efficient management of infectious waste in veterinary service centers. |
